Armenia - Georgia Combined Tours

Day 1/Arrival - City Tour - Echmiadzin - Zvartnots - Yerevan
Arrival. Meet and transfer to the hotel. After breakfast at the hotel start the city tour visiting the Republic Square with the Art Gallery, History Museum. Proceed to the ancient manuscript depository Matenadaran with 16477 surviving materials and around 300,000 archive documents including the heaviest and the biggest Armenian manuscript of 34 kilograms. Continue the tour driving along the Baghramyan Avenue showing the main government buildings, the Cascade monument, the Opera and Ballet House, artificial Lake Swan and the monuments to eminent Armenian people. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Visit the Holy See of Armenian Catholicos, Echmiadzin with its main Cathedral (4th c.), St. Gayane (7th c.), St. Hripsime (7th c.), St. Shoghakat churches (17th c.). All of them are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drive back to Yerevan with a stop at the ruins of Zvartnots (7th c.). The latter is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 2/Yerevan - Khor Virap - Selim Carvansaray - Gndevank - Karahunj - Goris
After breakfast at the hotel drive to the monastery of Khor Virap which is famous for its deep dungeon where the first Armenian Catholicos was kept for long 13 years. Drive to the monastery of Gndevank with a stop at the Selim Carvansaray. The latter is the only well surviving one coming from the depth of the history. This unique architectural monument of Medieval Armenia is a splendid relic of the days when Armenia was a crossroad for economical, cultural and military affairs. The complex Gndevank was built a thousand years ago, but it is still in a good condition and has a much more pleasant appearance than many of the recently constructed ones. Gndevank is a perfect place to visit as the view from just above, including the whole of the canyon and the entire complex, is a picturesque and breathtaking one. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive to Karahunj. This astronomical observatory is the oldest one ever found in the history, older than the British Stonehenge. Drive to the picturesque city of Goris. Dinner and overnight in Goris.
Day 3/Goris - Vahanavank - Tatev - Devil’s Bridge - Noravank - Areni - Yerevan
After breakfast at the hotel visit the 10th century Vahanavank monastery in the lush forests of the Armenian snazzy nature. From above you can enjoy the splendid panorama all around, including the Vahanadzor canyon. Proceed to the gorgeous Noravank passing through high picturesque rocks. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes in a cave café. Continue the tour to Areni village famous for the wine producing culture and the cultivation of different types of grapes. The village became world wide known after the recent archeological excavations when the oldest in the world winery was unearthed, thus proving that Armenia has the tradition and culture of wine producing coming from times immemorial. Drive to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 4/Yerevan - Haghartsin - Goshavank - Lori
After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to the heavenly forested region of Dilijan. Visit Haghartsin (10-13th centuries) and Goshavank (1188) monasteries. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive to Lori. Dinner and overnight in Lori.
Day 5/Yerevan - Tbilisi
After lunch at the hotel drive to the monasteries of Sanahin (10th century) and Haghpat (10th century). Both are inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drive to Armenia-Georgia border. Change guide and transportation. Transfer to the hotel in Tbilisi.
Day 6/Tbilisi city tour - Mtskheta - Tbilisi
Start the city tour including Metekhi church (13th c.); Abanot-ubani (natural sulphur springs, bath -houses built in 16-17th cc); Narikala church (the church, first was built in 4th c. and in 11th it was destroyed. Finally, it was rebuilt in late 20th c. There is a great view of old district of Tbilisi from this church); Karvasla: where you can see ancient Georgians clothes and hand made goods. Souvenir shopping (optional). Proceed to ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta. Lunch in a restaurant. In ancient times Mtskhta was the capital of Georgia and the most important religious center. It is situated at the convergence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi Rivers. There are a number of very significant archaeological and religious monuments in and around town. Visit to Jvari church (6th c.), Svetitskhoveli cathedral (11th c.) and Dedata/Mothers' Monastery.
Day 7/Tbilisi - Kakheti Region - Tbilisi
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day trip to Kakheti region with Lunch: Kakheti is synonymous with wine. There are hundreds of different grapes grown here, and every village has its own particular variety. Visit to Tsinandali village that is a source of famous white wine. Tour to Teliani Valley wine factory with wine tasting and tour inside the factory. Proceed to Telavi (main city of Kakheti). Lunch in a restaurant. Visit to Alaverdi Cathedral (6th c.). The cathedral was originally founded as a monastery in the 6th century. This 50m tall building is one of the biggest structures of its time. Return to Tbilisi, visiting Batonistsikhe Castle en route. The Castle is the main architectural and historical feature of Telavi. It was residence of the Kakhetian Kings in the 17th centuries. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 8/Tbilisi - Kazbegi Town - Tbilisi
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day trip to Kazbegi town: Kazbegi town is located 157 km away from Tbilisi (1740m above sea level) on the south slops of Caucasus main range. Drive along the Georgian military highway. This ancient route has been much celebrated by everyone from poets to guidebook writers for the romantic image of it. The place is remarkable for its landscapes; flora and fauna, people and history, and many travelers to Georgia will regard this as a highlight of their visit. On the way, sightseeing including Ananuri fortified monastery. Lunch in a Georgian restaurant in Pasanauri. Visit to Holy trinity monastery on the top of a mount by 4x4 vehicles (optional). Return to Tbilisi. Transfer to the hotel and overnight.
Day 9/Tbilisi - Bolnisi - Dmanisi - Tbilisi
Breakfast at the hotel. Proceed for Bolnisi Sioni and Dmanisi Sioni tour: Bolnisi Sioni, a 5th c. basilica, is significant for three main reasons: it is one of the most monumental churches of its time; it has interesting ornamentation inside, and on the facade were found the earliest examples of Georgian writing known in the country itself. The basilica is built of what is known as bolnisi tufa, a stone with a green tint. In the middle ages, the Ancient city of Dmanisi was one of the min towns on the caravan road from Georgia and Armenia to the Middle East. The basilica dates from the 7th c., however, and it was the seat of a bishop. The ruins cover a large area divided into two parts, 13 hectares on the hill above the Mashaveri River to the north, and 12 hectares of suburbs by the Pinezauri River to the south. Return to Tbilisi, lunch en route, free evening for leisure and overnight.
