Day 2/Yerevan city tour (Brandy Factory, Matenadaran, Megerian Carpet)
After breakfast at the hotel we start the city tour with the Brandy Factory to taste delicate Armenian high quality cognac and learn about the techniques of brandy making. Continue the tour visiting the depository of ancient Armenian manuscripts called Matenadaran. The depository contains about numerous valuable items among them the oldest parchment book that is the Gospel of Lazarus written in 887, as well as the heaviest Armenian manuscript, weighing 34 kilograms. Continue the tour in the Megerian Carpet Weaving Factory, where, along with the techniques of weaving, dyeing and restoring of famous Armenian rugs and carpets, we will learn the history of the Armenian cuisine in different regions of the country and have a great opportunity to have a Dolma master and tasting. Dolma is a unique made of minced meat, onion, rice, different types of spices all mixed together. In the evening we will have a walk in the peaceful city center: Opera House, State Conservatory, the Monument “Men” in the Saryan Park, named after the famous Armenian painter Martiros Saryan. The monument is devoted to an outstanding Armenian film called “Men”, Then visit Lake Swan, Monument of Aram Khachatryan, William Saroyan, Arno Babajanyan, Hovhannes Tumanyan. Start a street tour including Republic Square, Yerevan State University, Victory Bridge, Sports & Concerts complex, Kiev Bridge. Later drive along the Baghramyan Avenue with the House of Parliament and the Academy of Sciences and other important buildings on both sides. Overnight at the hotel in Yerevan.
Day 3/Yerevan – Saghmosavank – Akhtala - Yerevan
After the breakfast at the hotel we will explore one of the most beautiful gorges of Armenia: the Gorge of Qasakh River, famous for its beautiful churches standing right on cliff’s edge – one of them being Saghmosavank. In the afternoon we will drive to Lori region to participate in Akhtala Barbeque Festival. Every year this festival is becoming more and more popular, inviting natives and tourists to celebrate this day together, enjoy Armenian folk dance and music, participate in barbeque making and tasting. The place of celebration is unique Akhtala Monastery (10th century). This impressive fortified monastery is a must-see destination for all fans of travelling. Being one of the very few orthodox monasteries in Armenia, it was erected in the times of the Armenian Renaissance. It should be mentioned that Armenian Renaissance occurred much earlier than the European. It was called so because of the rich copper mines found here. In the evening we will return to Yerevan. Overnight at the hotel in Yerevan.
Day 4/Yerevan – Tsitsernakaberd - Garni - Geghard – Food Market - Yerevan
After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Park visiting the Genocide Museum. Proceed to Garni temple, the only surviving pagan temple in the territory of Caucasus. Garni is one of the most favorite tourist spots in Armenia located in the gorge of Garni. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes at a local house-garden. Master class of lavash baking and barbeque making in the underground oven “tonir”. Proceed to the magnificent monastic complex of Geghard, which is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Return to Yerevan with a stop in the Food Market, where you can buy local vegetables, fruits, dairy products and so on. Overnight in Yerevan.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport. Farewell.
