After breakfast at the hotel, we will have a short city tour. The pink and ancient and at the same time cheerful city with meaningful festivals and holidays welcomes all its visitors in all its modesty and luxury. This ancient city is older than Rome. The city has witnessed four settlement phases from the end of the 4th millennium BC to the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC. Lying on the main trade routes between East and West, Yerevan was constantly fought back and forth during the course of the time. The city is situated on the left bank of the river Hrazdan, rushing across the Ararat valley. It is impossible to imagine Yerevan without the famous Opera and Ballet House, The Republic Square with its colorful fountains and the Government House. Mount of Ararat forms an indispensable part of Yerevan. Everyone from Diaspora, who buys an apartment in Yerevan during their holidays in Armenia, takes care that the mount be seen from their windows. An unforgettable view can be enjoyed just on top of the Cascade monument. From here the whole city seems to be in your hand. We will then explore the top tourist attractions of Armenia: Garni Temple (a pagan temple built in 1st century BC. It is the only survival of the Hellenic epoch in the whole territory of the Caucasus.) and the Monastery of Geghard (UNESCO). It was first recorded in a document of 1250. The monastery is also famous due to the relics, among which the most important one is the spear which had wounded Christ on the Cross presumably brought there by the Apostle Thaddeus.). Here in Geghard, you can also watch the process of “lavash” making in the traditional underground oven “tonir”. Lunch at a local tavern tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Transfer to Yerevan. Leisure time for exploring the city on your own. Dinner at a local tavern or restaurant. Overnight at the hotel in Yerevan.

Day 3/04.10.2016/Tuesday/Yerevan – Matenadaran – Rind Village – Yeghegnadzor

After breakfast at the hotel, we will pay a visit to Matenadaran manuscript depository which is a must-ben obligatory place to visit during your holidays in Armenia. The institution is a major center for study and preservation of Armenian works of ancient literature. Matenadaran now protects about 16477 surviving materials and around 300,000 archive documents, among them about 2500 fragments collected in the depository. The manuscripts include almost all of the areas of ancient and medieval Armenian culture and sciences - history, geography, grammar, philosophy, law, medicine, mathematics, cosmography, theory of calendar, alchemy, chemistry, translations, literature, chronology, art history, miniature, music and theatre, as well as manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Greek, Latin, Ethiopian, Indian, Japanese and others. The building guards the most ancient parchment book that is the Gospel of Lazarus written in 887. Visitors can also see the biggest and the heaviest Armenian manuscript, weighing 34 kilograms. Drive to Rind Village for an unforgettable experience of a harvest festival, demonstration of lavash cooking, pressure of grapes in a traditional way, tasting home-made wines, folk songs, dances, and many more in the village of Rind. Transfer to Yeghegnadzor town for dinner and overnight.
